Wilson River Fishing Trips

The Wilson River is fishable year round, Natural High typically will fish the Wilson beginning in late September until mid May, but will on request help you target Summer Steelhead June thru September. This is a fairly small coastal stream that empties into Tillamook Bay just north of the coastal town of Tillamook, but it is an extremely productive Steelhead and Chinook fisheries--one of Oregon’s best! There are Steelhead or Salmon in this river every month of the year so the opportunities are incredible.

The Salmon season starts things off each fall when the Fall Chinook, averaging 25-28 lbs apiece, start their journey from the ocean.  From early September through December, Salmon is King! This exciting run peaks in mid to late October and the competition for open-river to fish becomes fierce.

Spring Chinook, averaging about 20lbs each, begin to enter the river in April with the peak of the run in Mid May and continues on into July.  The fishing season usually shuts down by June 15th to give them a breather and protect them while they spawn.

Wilson River Steelhead are typically 10 to 12 lb. fish, mint bright ‘chromers’ often still bearing sea lice. Mid November see the beginning of the Winter  Steelhead  games. The hatchery run peaks in late December and runs on into January while the wild fish peak is later on, (March—April) and still producing catches into May.

The summer steelhead are in the river from June all the way through January and this run hits a couple of peaks.  The first peak in the run is in the middle of July and then again when the fall rains begin the bite surges.
