Learn How to Safely Operate Your Drift Boat:
Instruction presented by the author of Drift Boats: A Complete Guide.
We offer both group and individual instructionIndividual instruction is arranged on an individual basis.
Group instruction will be offered for both beginning and advance boaters Class size limited to 5 boaters.
Beginning Drift Boating::
Our group instruction is an eight week course, meeting one day a week. Lessons
will last six hours each day. During the course of instruction you will learn the skills needed to use your
drift boat in a safe and competent manner in up to class III white water.Instruction begins with an introduction
to and history of drift boats. We will then move to the basics of boating in Oregon, proper equipment, a
nd outfitting of your boat. After that we will progressing tobasic oarsmanship, river features and obstacles,
reading the water, and dealing with emergencies. Finally we will learn to line rapids and use your drift boat
as a fishing platform.On the water instruction will begin on Hagg Lake and progress through the class
I and II waters of the lower Sandy and Clackamas Rivers. The class will conclude with a two day trip
where you will experience class III white water.This is a hands on course and you will need your own boat,
all legally required equipment for your boat, including a proper fitting PFD. You will be also be responsible
for your own meals, fishing licenses, invasive species tags and river permits (if required).
Advanced Oarsmanship:
will be taught on an individual basis and the sessions are tailor made to suit the needs of the
Individual boater.Pricing: Will be charged at $300 per day equally divided amongst up to 5 students.
Individual instruction will be charged at $250 per day. A $50 deposit will save your seat, payment in full due on first day of instruction.
